Pharmacy Technician with Externship
This program is designed to prepare students to assist registered pharmacists dispense prescription medication at retail, hospital and other dispensing pharmacies.
Students are also provided with an externship opportunity practicing pharmacy technician skills under the mentoring of an experienced registered pharmacist.
This program meets the requirements of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination.
Upon the successful completion of this program, students will posses the knowledge to:
- Stock and inventory prescriptions and over-the-counter medications
- Maintain written or computerized patient medical records
- Count or pour medications into dispensing containers
- Prepare prescription labels
- Prepare insurance forms
- Prepare intravenous medications and other similar tasks
Pharmacy Technician graduates are able to:
- Communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
- Understand the laws and regulations governing the pharmaceutical industry.
- Demonstrate the duties of a pharmacy technician.
- Understand the therapeutic response of medications to the body systems.
- Demonstrate computer literacy and operate word processing applications.
- Understand various aspects of Pharmaceutical Billing.
