Computer-Aided Design Technology (A.A.S.)
The degree program in Computer-Aided Design Technology (CAD) was developed and organized for the students who are planning to begin their careers with CAD software immediately after graduation. If required, our students receive individual instruction, allowing this program to provide the comprehensive skills and knowledge necessary for the development of accurate computer-aided graphics, design and drafting applications.
Major emphasis is placed on the use of several CAD applications such as AutoCAD, Architectural Desktop and MicroStation coupled with graphic theory and the related fundamentals of technical design.
Among the positions available to graduates of the CAD Technology program are:
- CAD operator
- CAD designer
- CAD manager
- CAD technician
- CAD coordinator
- Design draftsperson
- Technical sales
- CAD instructor
This program will also equip the student to convert ideas and sketched drawings into orthographic projections, detailed drawings, floor plan assembly drawings and three-dimensional drawings.
Computer-Aided Design Technology graduates are able to:
- Create two and three-dimensional drawings and design models.
- Establish a methodology for solving a design/drafting problem by utilizing freehand sketching.
- Develop detailed and working drawings using the principles of geometric construction and descriptive geometry.
- Develop layouts and technical designs for the architectural and machining industries by integrating the use of multiviews, assembly,
and solid modeling drawings. - Develop drawings for the architectural and mechanical industries
using computer-aided design software. - Demonstrate the ability to utilize a geometric form by a photo rendering
in order to present and describe a design. - Convey technical information effectively in graphic form.
